Composition:
Glimepiride: 2 mg + Metformin: 500 mg

A fixed-dose combination of two oral antidiabetic agents. Glimepiride (a sulfonylurea) stimulates insulin secretion, while Metformin (PR) reduces hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity.
Indications
-
Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus when diet and exercise alone do not provide adequate glycemic control.

Adjunct to diet and exercise in patients currently managed with metformin and glimepiride as separate tablets.
Side Effects

Hypoglycemia (especially with delayed meals or excessive exercise).

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain (more common with immediate-release metformin; PR version may reduce GI effects).

Metallic taste.

Lactic acidosis (rare, risk increases in renal impairment/contrast studies).

Weight gain.
